The Utopian appeal of universal health care and retirement is too strong to go away until or unless it crashes in flames.
It wouldn't go away even then. Socialists are utterly immune to past experience, otherwise, given the history of socialism, there wouldn't be any socialists left. Despite past failures, many of them horrible, the faith is kept.
Look at how many people are enthusiastically supporting more entitlements despite the fact that our current ones are devouring the Federal budget, and will eventually crush it unless changes are made.
