Does anyone know if they have designated the old Apollo mission control room as a national historical landmark?
Hi, Del.
"The old MCC is now a National Historic Landmark and is regularly visited by tourists. The third-floor FCR, where flight control for Apollo 11 was conducted, has been restored to just the way it was in 1969, when the Eagle landed on the moon."
So says this article:
You can still see the old Mercury Launch Control room at KSC. "The Mercury launch control room has been moved from Cape Canaveral Air Station, where it was seldom seen, to the Early Space Exploration building, part of the complex's new $5.5 million exhibit hall and conference center. "Everything was moved, except the tiles which crumbled," said Amy Maguire, spokeswoman for Delaware North Park Services, which manages the visitors complex. "You can see how primitive it was. There's the old phones, where you can still see the 305 area code stickers and the buttons for five lines."

The History Channel's special on Mission Control (and those hip guys at the helm) was excellent.
