I'm starting a new thread since no reply button showed up on your last post below.
BD: "For Mars Society Officer Mark Eby:
Here is my bio at the Cardiff Center for Astrobiology:
http://www.astrobiology.cf.ac.uk/staff2.html
Now provide the link to your bio somewhere of relevance?"
My bio is not posted on the interent except possibly somewhere in the back pages of habitable zone. You have seen it many times. Do you think posting something on the internet makes it real? Your claim of being invited to the Mars Society conference in 2000 is typical of those posting exagerrated claims on the internet. Undoubtedly evidence that they simply posted a bio provided by you without any fact checking. I am not really an MS officer any more either except by default as I resigned due to a lack of time.
BD: "If you do not do this, please shut up about what I do."
What science text did you read that says posting your bio on the internet is a prerequisite to scientific debate?
BD: "You have no right to criticize me for the time I have put in studying planetary protection issues. In case you have not noticed, NASA is almost in complete agreement (now) with everything ICAMSR has posted on its website.
I don't criticize you for being concerned about planetary protection. I criticize you for distorting the statments of true experts to pursue an extremely wasteful approach to MSR. Your claims that they expected samples from Mars to be hazardous is blatantly false. NASA has not adopted your insistence on Antaeus. What specific change do you think they have made do to your actions? I think the complete agreement statment is another highly misleading attempt to give yourself credibility.
Has NASA admitted Viking found life?
Has NASA admitted flu comes from space?
Has NASA stated Mars microbes can not be transferred to Earth by Martian meteorites?
Has NASA commited to an orbital facility for MSR?
Has NASA supported Levin's abuse of thermodynamics in claiming cold temperatures can cause pressure to build up at the surface of Mars enough to cause liquid water?
A few rather key areas of disagreement Barry.
BD "It is now asking the public for their views on how sample return should be handled.
I believe that was always part of the plan Barry, but perhaps Gary or someone in NASA can comment on this.
BD: "Manned Mars mission is perhaps a hundred years away, so you don't need your canvas and duct tape spacesuits. Put them away. Case closed."
Manned missions to Mars may never happpen due to the efforts of alarmists and anti-science types such as yourself. I'm quite sure your technical expertise on the subject is nil and plan to return to more actively countering your pseudo-science alarmism when my son gets older.
BD: "Why am I at the Cardiff Center for Astrobiology? Probably because of my integrity and work on exposing the truth about the Viking biology experiments and my work with planetary protection, something NASA was not concerned with much during the Goldin Administration:
http://pubs.acs.org/subscribe/journals/ci/31/special/digreg/08digregorio.html"
An editorial Barry. Your continued efforts to portray yourself as a real scientist by citing articles that are not subject to the scientific review process as if they were shows your level of integrity quite clearly. If you want to show some integrity in the future, mention that none of your articles or books has been subject to the scientific peer review process.
I see that the position is honorary by the way so I guess you aren't making any money off of this.
I do get paid for my ability to apply science Barry as do many other of your critics. Far more of an objective measure of ability than posting your bio on the internet, but then that claim isn't independently verifiable for most either. In the end it is the logic of our arguments and the ability to provide references from reliable sources that each of us should be judged on regardless of our degrees or fields of expertise. Those that change the subject to avoid dealing with tough questions about their stance are to be especially regarded with suspicion and low esteem.
Regards,
Mark
