One problem might be the creation of additional space debris
Will the repair area need to be contained within a repair structure/hanger where any dropped tools, putty, insulation, broken tiles, etc... can be contained so that they do not damage the station or some other orbiting vehicle?
I would think that an inflatable structure could be designed that could accomplish this and many other purposes; however, if NASA is involved, I would expect it to cost billions in development costs...
Nothing is simple where space and NASA are concerned.
