Thanks!

I really appreciate the thought, and have considered it, but there are three issues:

First, a blog is a responsibility, and one has to keep it fresh every day if it's any good. On the Zone, I can blow off a day or so when the work dumps on me, or take a vacation here, and others do a fine job of covering my bases. In other words, I prefer this as a hobby, not a vocation. I also don't want to learn how to make decent web pages.

Second, if my stuff is any good at all, it's because I'm bouncing off the other people here. Face it, without my Worthy Opponents (and Worthy Allies), it wouldn't be much of a debate, and I wouldn't be much of a debater. A corollary to this is that if I just started writing on my own, with nobody to pull me up short (or tug up on my shorts), I would stand a risk of becoming one of those people who wraps his own point of view around himself so tightly that nothing can get in or out any more. A mental black hole. While bloggers do get feedback, I feel it's better to stay out here in the arena, and do real sparring instead of shadowboxing.

Third, there are already many admirable blogs out there carrying my points of view, with great writing, good research, and much renown among websurfers. Some of these are so good, I am not worthy to clean their mouse balls. Many of the items I post here have been located and linked to by these other sites. Generally, I attribute and link straight through to the original material, and so places like Instapundit, Oxblog, Lileks, Andrew Sullivan, the Corner, and many others don't get near the credit they probably should from me.

That being said, it would be nice if I could figure out how to make money doing this. I've got feelers out at the local papers, but they seem to have all the libertarian/conservative columnists they can use. ;)
