Just heard on the hourly ABC radio newscast:
Bush sound bite: "I will soon submit to Congress a request for $87 billion... <snip>"
Smartass news announcer, incredulously: "What?!"
Sound bite repeated: "$87 billion..."
The announcer goes on to discuss the war in Iraq. The impression deliberately given is that this is the price only for the Iraqi occupation. In fact, Bush went on in the next sentence of his speech to say: "The request will cover ongoing military and intelligence operations in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere, which we expect will cost $66 billion over the next year."
This somehow never made it into the newscast. We will be hearing now that the Iraqi occupation will cost us $87 billion. Another myth generated.
