Economic forecasts
The article on the Wall Street Journal site is subscription only...scroll down to "Accelerating Growth is Forecast"...but the link to "full forecasts" (A Java window, not a real page) works.
From that window:
Economic growth is accelerating and is expected over the balance of the year to be at its strongest pace since the late 1990s.
The average forecast of the 53 economists who participated in the September survey rose sharply to an inflation-adjusted annualized rate of 4.7%, up from a forecast of 3.6% in the August survey. For the fourth quarter, the average forecast climbed to 4% from the 3.8% predicted in the prior survey.
Going into 2004, the question remains: Will this growth in gross domestic product be sustained and translate into improvement in the job market?
Economists lifted their growth forecasts for the first half of next year, but they predict the expansion's pace will be more moderate. The unemployment rate is expected to inch lower. Payrolls are forecast to expand by about 1.4 million over the next 12 months.
Be sure to look at the links at the left of the window. A lot more details, there.
