re: Shootings

Compton is an all black enclave in Los Angeles. It's a "bad" neighborhood - that's probably the understatement of the year - but, regardless, some folks feel comfortable in areas where they grew up and can't see it in perspective. If you grow up in a terrible neighborhood - you usaully are BLIND to the fact that it is a terrible neighborhood. For them it seems normal.

Money may change the wherewithal of an individual or a family but for some folks packing up and moving to Newport Beach or Beverly Hills isn't even an option, even though that would clearly be the more intelligent thing to do. Los Angeles has become mostly hispanic due to the flood of illegal aliens and the black enclaves have grown smaller. These areas are very racially divided and the folks who live there are far more racist than one would expect. As a result clannish patterns of settlement occur between the black, hispanic and asian residents of LA and the gangs guard their turf in a hyper-xenophobic manner.

Some of those neighborhoods I wouldn't drive through without an armored SmarTruck or equivalent - either that or a chameleon vehicle that can fit in without being worth a carjack - something like an old 80's Cadillac or Lincoln. It's a world within a world and not a real happy place.

It's hard to understand - I know.
