Space/Science » in reply to Poll: "Spacefaring Civilization"

re: Poll Closed --- Results

From here and elsewhere there were 43 responses.

For Question #1: All but 8 responded by selecting (b), requiring 1% of the population to travel in space for the whole to be considered spacefaring. Of the remaining 8 responses, 7 indicated that nobody had to go into space, either because they considered unmanned spacecraft to be sufficient, or they rounded down from a very small percentage of astronauts. One response indicated that a spacefaring civilization should be 100% spaceborne.

For Question #2: Nearly all indicated country or international organization as the whole spacefaring population. One indicated the whole human population of Earth.

For Question #3: Based on the previous two questions, the actual numbers of spacefarers was mostly between 1 million and 10 million, although 7 respondants set the number at less than 10000. One respondant expected everyone to travel in space.
