Subject says it all. I foolishly bought a graymarket copy of Win-98 and discovered it was rat manure. The system would crash if I did anything that was different. Half the new hardware drivers would not load. Often times the wretched thing wouldn't boot unless fooled with (How does Microsoft get away with this garbage?). I then acquired a copy of Windows-2000 and it's been a dream in comparison (Windows-XP is not an option due to the evil activation requirment). Of course, I would never access the Internet directly from Windows-2000 because it's a security nightmare.
For serious work, Linux is the only option. Linux is easy to install and stable. Black hat hackers generally avoid Linux so security is not a real problem. Best of all, Linux is free with source code.

Win98 is unusable -- Linux is a much better option
