re: Women in Iraq

Do you even care where the statistics were coming from before Saddam fell? The same place that the 100 percent election victories came from? Nobody killed women except Saddam's sons?

I'm getting a little sick of newspeople interviewing some upper class twit in downtown Baghdad who was an office manager under Saddam. "Gee, I don't see much improvement than when I was a Baathist toady," they say.

Let's see some interviews in the North and South. Ask some Kurdish women if they had it better before. Ask some Marsh Arabs. Ask the Shiites. The mass graves were equal opportunity, in case people have forgotten.

Yanar Mohammed is an activist who fled Iraq two years after Desert Storm, and has been living comfortably in Canada as a sculptor for the past ten years. One wonders why she wasn't in Baghdad, protesting.

It is a hoot how people like you would be suspicious if the Bush administration said the Earth revolved around the Sun, but any crap ("Kidnappers, rapists and murderers were allowed to blend back into society, but they were kept in check by the police state") that the old Baathist regime serves up you eat up like popcorn.
