At least the MSR issue is a legitimate one. Do we do it or not? Is it needed before human missions? What level of precaution is needed? What is actually the safest method of return? These are all legitimate issues that BD raised even if I take strong issue with his methods and interpretations.

The Mars versus NEO watch is a total bullshit issue. Both are currently being conducted and there is no reason this can not continue and the funding levels needed have such a disparity in cost that even a NASA budget battle means there is little conflict between the two. You could shave a little off the manned missions to fund the NEO programs or totally eliminate just one robotic mission to fund the latest NEO recommendations. I can understand why many without a background in science in general or biology might be persuaded by Barry, but EP ought to be an obvious fraud to anyone who does the least bit of checking on NEO issues.

While I am certain EP has no monetary interest in the issue he promotes and am not sure about Barry, I am sure BD at least has chosen a legitimate topic to contest.
