Solar probe
Thanks for explaining that so clearly and not making me feel like an idiot, Nick. (I do that just fine by myself!) (and of course it means that you were correct, Raoul!)
I found an interesting link while doing a little self-education... to NASA'a proposed Solar Probe:
As currently planned, the Solar Probe will launch toward Jupiter in February 2007, arrive at Jupiter in June 2008, and arrive at perihelion in October 2010. A retrograde flyby maneuver at Jupiter will rotate the plane of the orbit, providing an ecliptic inclination of 90 degrees, and will reduce the perihelion radius to 4 solar radii or about 2.8 million kilometers.
Hot stuff! There will be some interesting science from this mission if it goes.
