And maybe Canada hasn't spent bundles of $$ on the military because of a philosophy that there are other, better means to attain peace. But it's not like Canada hasn't contributed in the past.. with a population of about 1/10 that of the US, in WWII Canada lost 37,500 soldiers as compared to the US 292,000. Canada also contributed significantly to GW1.
I never said that Canada did nothing to fight tyranny in the world, and certainly never said they did not play a major part in WWII. For the record, they were on the ground in Afghanistan, too, and lost brave people to friendly fire, among other things. Anybody who thinks I put Canada in the same category as, say, France, is mistaken. ;)
What I am saying is that the United States has picked up the largest costs of defending the Free World over the past decades, including pretty much holding back the Soviet Union all by itself. This doesn't make Canada cowardly. I'm not a coward because I rely on the local cops to take care of the bad guys instead of packing weapons under my own bed, although maybe a sensible person (without kids) would do both. But I don't thank the cops by going up to them on a routine basis, spitting on their shoes, and calling them gun-toting, militaristic fascists.
