Also, the "imminent threat" lie

A typical reference from the Associated Press:

Chief U.S. weapons searcher David Kay reported Thursday he had found no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, a finding that brought fresh congressional complaints about the Bush administration's prewar assertions of an imminent threat from Saddam Hussein.

(It is worth comparing this story to the actual statement made by David Kay.)

Actual quote from the State of the Union address:

Some have said we must not act until the threat is imminent. Since when have terrorists and tyrants announced their intentions, politely putting us on notice before they strike? If this threat is permitted to fully and suddenly emerge, all actions, all words, and all recriminations would come too late. Trusting in the sanity and restraint of Saddam Hussein is not a strategy, and it is not an option.

Bush is acknowledging here that the threat is not "imminent." In fact, most of the opposition to the war in Iraq was that it was "preemptive," which implies on the face of it that we are not dealing with an imminent threat.

The leftist press is attempting to rewrite history in a number of areas. Notice for example how the reasons for invading Iraq have all been somehow boiled down to the WMD issue. In point of fact, what Kay found just in his initial report was sufficient evidence that Iraq had no intention of cooperating with the United Nations, which in itself was a legitimate reason for ending the regime under the U.N. resolutions.
