I like animals
But, I am not a pet person.
There is a lot of grief associated with owning them. The bigger the pet the more potential grief. What happened with Roy could (and does)also happen with a much smaller animal around children. I guess it is up to the individual as to whether the risk is worth it.
(currently owns an outside cat which I largely ignore.)
