Translations...

From The National Review Corner:

The following are literal translations of the Chinese names of fast food chains. Can you guess their English names?

a. 'Chinese Fortress King'

b. 'Agree Virtue Chicken'

c. 'Warm Base of a Fruit'

Here are the solutions, which you can find in Chinese characters on Marc's blog:

a. Burger King (Han Bao Wang)

b. KFC (Ken De Ji)

c. Wendy's (Wen Di)

Gee, I thought "Warm Base of a Fruit" was the name of a bar on Castro Street...

My favorite translation has always been the apocryphal tale that the Chinese for Coca Cola translates as: "Bite the wax tadpole!"

Which phrase, of course, is also found written in the rest rooms at that same bar...

(Okay, I'm going to hell for this one, arent' I?)
