Hmmm...

For some time now we've been told that these clouds are being evaporated away by ionization from intense starlight. We see some of this process in the image, but we may be seeing other processes as well. The long tendrils (which up till now have been explained as "shadowed" regions that somehow escape ionization and evaporation) look here as they do in the Eagle Nebula and elsewhere like they might be the tails of ejected stars.

Note the upper tendril has a quite obvious star in it, and there appears to be a bow shock as well.

Note other bow shocks and apparent motion in other parts of the cloud.

Is it possible that the processes that cause star formation can and do "kick" them from their points of origin?

(Has all this been covered elsewhere?)
