Notice the smokey rocket exhaust: The Shenzou V uses the Long March CZ-2F booster, with four liquid nitrogen tetroxide/unsymmetrical dimethylhydrazine (N2O4/UDMH) fuelled strap-on boosters. As such it does not require cryogenic insulation as does NASA's shuttle. However, since UDMH is a hypergolic fuel (highly reactive with moisture), it's storage and transport raises the cost of production from $1/kg to about $25/kg (1994 dollars). NASA may have switched to LH2/LOX for this reason, but don't quote me on that. Other liquid fuels could be kerosene/LOX, lots of alternatives, but with a sacrifice in performance.
