Ok...you all are familiar with the Marswell scam of the Chinese and the PLA setting up shop in CA to export our missile secrets.

Well let's take it one step further and speculate just how our corporate security could become so lax, our executive branch co-opted for a few bucks and our missile & guidance technology shipped out like an order for the Chinese Laundry on the corner.

Everyone here has heard me mention DOD 5105.15 of Feb 7, 1958 and of the limitations this Directive heralds for the US space program, specifically embodied in the Civilian-Military Liaison Committee.

No one is probably more aware of these unspoken space limitations than the plugged-in corporate heads of the major aerospace firms.

At the close of the USSR era, the US military and aerospace contractors were viciously downsized alongside the countless base closings and scaling back of defense appropriations. Many (me included) believed Bush Sr. was premature in this scaling back and many large companies are no longer in existence as a result.

At this time folks were scrambling and reviving an ignored enemy to use in contracts, war-games and speculative think-tank projections.

This enemy was China.

China was behind us pretty miserably in missile technology and were really only a large scale producer of conventional arms as their aircraft were woefully inferior, their large guns, inaccurate, and their missiles fired about as true as Clinton before a grand jury.

Ok let's leave the Habitable Zone and enter the Twilight Zone.

If manned space beyond earth's orbit is sewn up by 5105.15, your contracts limited to satellites and shuttle maintenance contracts, how on earth do you go about returning to the glory era (read many huge new contracts) of space exploration?

In the TZ, the answer is simple - you help the Chinese.

That's right. You let them steal your guidance technology, rocket schematics and even your nuclear propulsion technologies out from under you.

You don't think twice when you pass the memo to human relations to "Hire more Asians for diversity." and you are don't even blink when your office staff is suddenly 40% Chinese.

You make certain they can get what they need to become competitive in the space/missile game - you know they will still need a decade, or more, even with the technologies and schematics to catch up.

Now when the Chinese fire longer missiles with amazingly accurate guidance and telemetry systems - you secretly rejoice. This is because you know 5105.15 will not hold back the Chinese and you know this will finally open up space to new manned vehicles and eventually to plenty of new "superiority" porkjects of ever increasing scale.

Shades of the Rosenbergs? Perhaps. But this is much more attenuated to pure greed and corporate self-interest than any balance of power motives.
