The US military has been struggling with this for decades. Lots of similar problems in Japan during the occupation.
Long term occupation and intermarraige was a major factor in the fall of the Roman empire.
I believe the Euros have a different attitude and even encourage it. I think I read somewhere that in Angola the Portuguese did everything but force intermarraige by colonists with the intent of assimilating the local culture.
