re: Not so fast
At 3 am CST Jupiter is in the east, but is only 2 deg above the horizon. It might not be visible: blocked by trees, hills, clouds, or buildings.
Jupiter has magnitude -1.8, but Sirius has magnitude -1.46. Sirius is in the south-east about 20 deg above the horizon, much more likely to be visible.
Saturn has magnitude 0.0, and is due east, 50 deg above horizon, also quite visible.
Capella has magnitude 0.08, also due east, and 80 deg above horizon.
Are you sure it is Jupiter?
