Space/Science » in reply to 99 % of them couldnt solve a grade school question in newtonian mechanics

Look at it this way...

Yeah, it's a puff piece attributed to one of Colorado's two senators... probably written by somebody on his staff. But:

... because the time is right to get the message out that space is critical to this nation's future, both on the battlefield and in industry.

Surely it's better to have somebody -- especially a senator as high-profile as Allard -- touting space, than no one at all? Or, is it?

99 % of them couldnt solve a grade school question in newtonian mechanics

Probably true (assuming you were including Grades 11 and 12 in "grade school"; that's when I first learned physics) - but that's why politicians have a staff. They're not all a bunch of boobs...

What bothers me about this particular blurb is: on a second read, its all about militarization.

As the strategic subcommittee chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, I have oversight responsibilities for all space programs in our military arsenal. This gives me the unique opportunity to recognize the overarching impact space has on our daily lives and those of the military.

Well, no, it's not exclusively about militarization... he uses the end to indirectly remind his fellow Coloradans that defense contracts are also armored pork barrels.
