Observing the universe (astronomy) is a science that nothing can stop: more and more people wonder what's out there, parents want their children to become interested in it (to raise curiosity), instruments become more accessible and more sophisticated and new tehnologies as well as access to space make better and better telescopes all the time.
We don't know if we'll find life on Mars but we can be certain space has more surprises in store, each time a new kind of telescope is build or even when amateurs contribute to knowledge advancement.
