Parallels

So when we look back at WWII we should remember how savagely the so-called "Greatest Generation" attacked, without provocation, the harmonious people of the German Co-operative ("Reich" is such a loaded term), whose utopia stretched all the way from Brittany to Bergen-Belsen.

Without provocation? Hardly.

Even casual students of history are aware that Germany declared war on the United States even before Roosevelt asked Congress to declare war on Japan in the wake of the latter's attack on our naval base at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, "...a date which will live in infamy."

Your blogwriter, "CounterRevolutionary" is trying, lamely, to justify the recent invasion of Iraq in light of our war with Nazi Germany.

Those who have been paying attention would know that FDR had indeed been itching to get at Nazi Germany, but recognized that he lacked public support, and worse, was on record stating:

"I have said this before, but I shall say it again and again and again: Your boys are not going to be sent into any foreign wars."

However, recently (1995) released material obtained through the FOIA clearly shows that, behind the scenes, Roosevelt secretly conspired to provoke an attack from Japan, knowing that action might trigger a declaration of war on the United States by Japan's Tripartite Pact ally Nazi Germany, a topic I covered in a recent post

...Lieutenant Commander Arthur McCollum, a U.S. Naval officer in the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI), saw an opportunity to counter the U.S. isolationist movement by provoking Japan into a state of war with the U.S., triggering the mutual assistance provisions of the Tripartite Pact, and bringing America into World War II.

If there are any parallels to be drawn between our entry into WWII and the so-called War on Terror, they reside in the deceptions foisted on the American public to arouse fear and anger, and to generate support for these conflicts.
