Well, I may not be the person to ask about this, as for 'shop' issues I am still stuck using windows. I am trying to find the time to change though.
I did run a RedHat server, though, for a year supporting several hundred clients. I suppose that gives me some room to talk.
So what little I know about Fedora is that its the future of Red Hat. Red Hat is a very robust OS and, more importantly, a very robust open-source community. RH Linux is a joy to install, and their RedHatNetwork makes managing and maintaining your OS a joy. When I ran a server, my only real nuts-and-bolts issues were user policy, Firewall and security (IE, the time sinks for EVERY server)- everything else was pretty plug-and-play as far as linux goes.
So in as much that Fedora looks, from a distance, as the future of RH(*), I would say go for it. Just make sure there is some sort of network in place for doing live package updates.
However, RH is the best OS I have ever used. If Fedora is the future, and RH is merging into the fedora project... Then why not just start out on RH and jump to Fedora when its mature?
As for managing your computer: with RH its a breeze, I have no idea how 'l33t' you have to be to do Fedora. My guess is probably not much to get it off the ground, but like Red Hat, the sky is the limit depending on how HackDaddy you wanna get.
Davin L.
*: (from the fedora site)"The Red Hat Linux Project, as this used to be called, is merging with the Fedora Linux project. We had so many common goals that to work apart would be a waste of effort. We have months of effort before we can have a unified infrastructure, so we still have two different web sites, two sets of documentation, and so forth, but we will be unifying our work over time. Red Hat would like to thank Fedora Linux project developers for proposing the merger and committing time to making the merger a reality. "
