From Fox News:

U.S. military sources denied previous reports that the soldiers killed Sunday in Mosul were mutilated. Fox News has learned that a military investigation revealed both soldiers were killed by gunfire that came through the windscreen; bullet wounds to the face were the cause of both deaths.

"One of the soldiers was shot under the chin and the bullet came out of his head. I saw the hole in his helmet. The other was shot in the throat," said Bahaa Jassim, a witness.

A U.S. military spokesman told Fox News the bodies were not cut, throats were not slashed nor was there any throwing of rocks or concrete blocks at the dead bodies. Rocks were thrown at the vehicle during the incident breaking the vehicle's rear windshield and the bodies were stripped of personal possessions such as watches.

Some people looted the vehicle of weapons, CDs and a backpack, Jassim said.

People who have been following the news from Iraq over the past months should realize by now that "witnesses," usually some Iraqi pulled from a crowd, can and do say almost any damn thing. This is not the first time that first-hand "witness" reports in cases like this have turned out to be inaccurate.
