by the government and they are trying to avoid it as long as they can.
The invention of CCS7 (common channel signaling 7) has totally revolutionized the telecommunications industry, both for the landline and the cellular industries, MF and DTMF trucking just wasn’t cutting the mustard. The ability to port numbers is a wonderful feature and has been around for years (on the land line side).
Mobile phones will eventually take over the POTS (plain old telephone service) line but the mobile phone industry is still kind of like the Wild West. The government is just now starting to clamp down on them.
They are not yet, but the cell phone industry is on its way to being regulated by the government just like the old phone companies are, people have become so dependant on their phone service that I‘m glad that the government regulates it. Telco’s have had to live by stringent rules and regulations for years that the newly formed cell phone companies haven’t had to abide by. Since they are presently unregulated they are going to have to get used to being controlled and living by the same standards and rules that regular phone companies have for years.
The reliability of a landline is unsurpassed. With this rapidly growing and expanded population we have cell phones still have a long way to go, however they are definitely the future of telecommunications. GSM is the new tech now, I like it. But I like the satellite phone more, gets rid of all those unsightly towers and all that RF engineering.
