re: Mars-Phobos
The shadow is below (on Phobos and on the crater) in the picture; Phobos being much closer and in orbit around Mars, doesn't move at the same speed as Mars surface (the moon is much faster); all kinds of factors, as well as how fast could a picture be taken from Viking's orbiter.
