re: Just how far are the Pleiades?
Your earlier post on the X-Ray discrepances regarding dark energy and now these possible Hipparchos or stellar evolution discrepancies are what makes science so interesting. Any 'established' model is subject to questioning when substantiated contradictory evidence appears. Most often it turns out to be expermental error of some sort but occasionally it's the 1st breeze fortelling the storm of a new paradigm. We live in very exciting times for us science & astronomy geeks.
