France and Germany agree to help with Iraqi debt
The cry from the Left was almost universal: "How could Bush be so damn stupid as to put a blockade on contracts to the weasels while trying to get concessions on Iraqi debt?"
Well, whaddaya know.
While there's obviously a lot to hash out yet, maybe the "carrot and stick" idea wasn't so stupid after all.
One of Bush's greatest political weapons is that his opponents are literally incapable of conceiving that he has a brain--a blind spot they can't overcome. It's kind of like fighting in the dark when you have the only pair of night vision goggles.
