Personally I think Sadaam's capture, while not only dramatic and clearly great news, is secondary to the role being played by US troops in Iraq, who now are engaged in rebuilding Iraqi society and trying to bring security to the people, at great risk to themselves. The Americans in Iraq are vigorously waging peace, while the pro-Sadaam and pro-Quada forces contribute only death and destruction.
I think if the President is enjoying higher support right now, it's partly because his administration's vision seems to be working (and I know not everyone here sees it that way). Sure, the future is a long time and who knows what'll happen...but for now at least, Iraq seems much better off than it's been for the last 3 decades. It's a time of incredible promise, with the potential to introduce the principles of freedom and democracy into the Arab world, and with a President determined to make sure it happens.
Of all the things America could be doing in the world with its power, this ain't the worst.
