Elected politicians in America don't make squat compared to their private equivalents, although there are a hell of a lot of quiet perks thrown in. Most politicians are in the game for the power, not the money.

I made more money last year than a U.S. Senator made in 1990.

I think the President of the United States makes about $400,000 a year. Of course, living in the White House and having your own 747 doesn't exactly suck.
