I bought my 10 year old nephew a Revell Warthog kit for Christmas.

He's never built a model so uncle Rob will "show him how". I got him glue paint brushes, an exacto knife, assorted model paints and a can of olive drab spray.(He's not ready for airbrushed camo)

To bad for you they don't make a HUD for cribs- that would be cool ;)
