I ended up finding a free look of Solo Anti Virus Scanner, along with their removal and healing patch, did the job really well.
It is an interesting virus. A little geek at my daughter's robotics team passed out the infected disk.
It really wigged out the computer for awhile, and a lot of experiened people misdiagnosed the problem as mechanical.
This has been quite a learning curve.
