Exclduing comets entirely, and just focusing on asteroids

Oh boy. At least Morrion is half right:

"8.2 Results and Conclusions of Cost Benefit Study

The results of the baseline case are presented in tabular format below. The quantities hP and hI
are the hazard to population and the hazard to infrastructure values. The global averages for hP
and hI are $1.6 million per person and $98 thousand per person, respectively. The corresponding
US averages for hP and hI are $6.96 million per person and $734 thousand per person,
respectively."

This alone is enough to justify Mazanek's lunar plan, which one notes that Morrion ignored for absolutely no good reason, but seriously, the comet section of this study is absolute unfounded bullshit.

The impact hazard is even worse than this.

Operationally, for Tunguska type impactors, the need is for 45-90 minutes warning, so that people can take shelter and nuclear weapons control teams be alerted to prevent accidental launch. For mega-tsunami, 2 to 3 days warning with accurate impact point is needed for coastal evacuation.

Langley has told NASA management how to do this, and it is both technically feasable and justified on a cost/benefit basis.

If Morrison can not retract his earlier comments on Clube and Napier's comet work, he should be fired.
