For the snake that is.
Their growth rate is dependent on the available food supply.
I had a 3' Ball Python that was imported from West Africa. I know it was imported because I had to remove a few ticks. It didn't eat for 8 months. I weighed him every week and he only lost 2oz. Since they're cold blooded, they don't burn calories maintaining a body temperature. They also don't do much.
I also had an 8' Boa Constrictor. I was bitten twice and hurt like a son-of-gun. Bled all over the place. If a snake bites you, it's your fault, simple as that. That being said, if you own a Retic, (Reticulated Python) like the one in the pictures, it's not a matter of "if" you get bit, it's a matter of how many times. They just have a nasty disposition. If you do own one, keep a bottle of cheap Scotch near by. You can use it to make your little pet release his grip on your hand or whatever body part happened to pissed him off.
If I remember right, et likes snakes...with honey mustard bar-b-que sauce.
