I got a laugh out of the article you linked. I'm surprised it didn't discuss the Viagra commercials where coworkers keep asking if a guy has colored his hair or something else. He looks different - happier, more confident. No, he asked his doctor about Viagra and got laid! That's why he's happy!
Not being one overly interested in medication except for staying as far from it as I can*, I've never understood those ads that suggest we "ask your doctor about" a drug without giving you a clue what the drug is far. The earliest example I remember was Claritin (I think it's an allergy drug). The commercials kept saying "Ask your doctor about Claritin." Let me get this straight, I'm supposed to go to my doctor (a nice enough guy but someone I try to avoid) and ask him about a drug when I have no idea what it's for or what it does. For all I knew, it was for menstral cramps. For that matter, not knowing anything about Levitra, I thought it might be related to arthritus (stiff shoulder) instead of stiffness elsewhere.
* As a pilot, I avoid doctors and medications to avoid the possibility of getting grounded. I've known military pilots who refuse to give blood for fear they'd pass out and get grounded. In general, doctors are not a pilot's friend.
The FAA has a drug list of medications, including those not allowed for use by pilots. (This link is from the members section of the AOPA website, so it may not work for you). It'd be my luck that the drug I asked my doctor about might get me grounded.
The last thing in the world I want is to take a single medication more than I absolutely have to. A good friend of mine is paralyzed from MS. Until a few months ago, he was on 12 different medications. They left him little more than a shell of a man. He was in a stupor all the time, barely aware of his surroundings. A few months ago, he had a very serious medical condition that almost killed him. While in the hospital, the doctors reviewed the list of drugs he was on and removed 5 of them. He's a completely different man - alert, cheerful, and fun to be around.
