Optical versus radio observatories

Nick,

I'm guilty of laziness and have not bothered to read the paper. Did the paper address only optical observatories? If so, then it seems intuitive that a deep space observatory would be superior (don't have to worry about gravity deforming the mirror). However I believe a radio observatory would always be better suited on the lunar far side because the Moon would shield it from terrestrial RF noise.
