Some stuff on this has already been telegraphed, but I haven't looked closely at these predictions and releases, and this is what I think:
- What I'm hoping for, and may actually see:
More solid and permanent tax cuts.
A solid commitment to finishing the job in Afghanistan and Iraq.
- What I'm hoping for, and probably will not see:
Serious proposals on cutting spending and the size of government.
Social Security and other entitlement alternatives.
Serious spending caps on Federal programs. Maybe (dare I dream?) eliminating one or two.
- What I'm hoping will not be there, but probably will:
A whole bunch of special interest spending goodies. All for GOOD causes, of course*. It used to be a standing joke when Democratic presidents made their addresses a laundry list of billions to special interests. I don't see a lot of difference any more.
A lot of explaining on why he thinks we should open the borders with Mexico up, when all Mexico has done for years is kick America in the nuts.
.
*And yes, sorry, our favorite space programs fall into this category, too.
