How did we go from Moon vs. Mars To LEO vs. Mars?
LEO is on the path to Mars and everywhere else. No argument. It's simply not a plateau point. LEO infrastructure is not self-sustaining. We have to reach a point of minimal supply from Earth or commercial viability to establish a permanent presence in space. We have to develop LEO capability, but we need to keep our eyes on the ultimate goal as well.
Once we establish a permanent or near permanent presence in one place all other options become much easier. The last 30 years have shown neither is an easy task. Picking the easiest path to either point is very important. And yes I know this is simplistic, but I think its where real discussions about options needs to start.
