Take a drive down Hwy 237 and take a look at the old 3-Com campus (It's a ghost town). Drive up Hwy 101 from San Jose to SF and you'll see a significant fraction of the office buildings have "For Lease" signs on them. Most of the office buildings between where I live and where I work are empty. The Dot Com ripped the guts out of the Bay Area. Fortunately, people are starting to find jobs again (my unemployed neighbors have found work). Unfortunately the recovery wil take a long time.
