would not the mass of a ship required to go to mars be greater reduced if one of mars moons had the resources. no heat shielding or mass waisted on carrying all the resources.
I think the question we should ask if we go to mars like the apollo approach then nasa will need another goal after? so i believe the twin moon base idea has merit for building a supply points like the Auckland Islands to supply provisions for wrecked ships.
