I have the misfortune to both know the guy and have him as my US Senator
I worked for him running his 1st election campaign as a congresscritter in MA; overthrew an old line paleolithic Democrat for the post; admitedly in retrospect as well, Kerry was an improvement
As a person, he is a top shelf elitist
Disappears from MA until the next election
A media manipulating phoney
While making $135K a year he contributed $0 (not a misprint) to charity, citing he needed the money; since marrying his 2nd gazillionaire he's fixed this gaff
Flops his positions unashamedly as a function of the latest polls; a matter of record as even the liberal Boston Globe has criticized him repeatedly on this tactic
(OK, OK he'll never support anything anti-abortion or anti-labor regardless)

Oh, and did you know that he served in Vietnam?
