The real loser in the Iowa caucus was the labor movement. Both of big labor's candidates had it handed to them: Dean and Gephart.

Nobody in the DNC except Gephart really went out and railed against international trade agreements. There was nobody making the "Fair Trade not Free Trade" battle cry. There was very little scorn for Bush's plan to give illegal workers a legal status...In Iowa it is pretty much accepted that Mexican workers are beginning to fill out lower paying factory jobs (the alternative is to move the entire factory to Mexico).

Big labor no longer demands strict anti-trade positions from the Democratic candidates, the public is a long, long, long way form ever again buying into tariffs and other limitations on free trade, and as a result, the free trade-Reganomic policies will continue whether Bush is re-elected or not (Just as it did under 8 years of Clinton).

This is good for capitalism in the long run...But we all need to brush up on our Spanish.
