(I think there are more important discussions on the Space Board right now and I didn't want to clutter it up.)
"I also want to explore ... planet D.C.," Dennis Kucinich said.
So he's not interested in finding intelligent life??
Joseph Lieberman stated that the money would be needed "right here on Earth to give health care that's affordable to everybody, to improve our education system, and do better on veterans' benefits and homeland security".
Hmmm...NASA must have a ten trillion dollar budget if spreading it around would do that! It kills me when people say "the money's better spent here on earth..." Where the heck do they think NASA is, Jupiter? All those potential contractors employ human beings, not Klingons!
And Howard Dean agreed that "space exploration is terrific", but went on to ask – "Where is the tax increase to pay for it? It is not worth bankrupting the country."
Ah yes, where indeed. Reallocation just isn't part of Dean's universe, is it? Anything worth doing is worth taxing right, huh?
I don't mean to pick specifically on the Dems, it's just that these 3 quotes were conveniently gathered up in a SpaceDaily story. And let's face it, if the Bush Space initiative is politically motivated, then a lot of the opposition to it is similarly driven, don't you think? And if the naysayers succeed in causing a trainwreck, who loses out? My nephew, that's who. He wants to be an astronaut.
Arrgh. If my head explodes, could someone please let the janitor know he'll need an extra mop?
well, actually sorta on-topic: politics and space
