"As we all know, no Democrat has ever legitimately lost an election on the issues. Either some form of fraud was involved, or the voters brainwashed, or something. It is impossible for any reasonable person to freely vote for a Republican."

This was intended as sarcasm, based on the Democratic and media responses to almost every election I have seen, local and national, where the Democrat came out on the short end of the stick. The excuses are legion, but I have yet to see a Democrat come up with the analysis that maybe, just maybe, their policies are not what the electorate is looking for.
