Some people at Boeing are excited about this for the very same reason some here are excited. Sure there are billions of dollars as well, but it is leaving LEO after 30 years that is cool to them.
As I understand from some Lock Martin folks who attended my MarsFest '04 at the MOF in Seattle they are waiting till more details are out. BTW, there were a couple of Boeing engineers at MarsFest who were like little kids in a candy shop about the plan and these images from Boeing.
