At this page you can get the details of the camera color coding.
http://berlinadmin.dlr.de/Missions/express/kamera/aufnahmetechnik4eng.html
750nm +/- 20nm ->Red (730-770) NearIR?!?!?
530nm +/- 45nm ->Green (485-575)
440nm +/- 45nm ->Blue (395-485) A teensy weensy of NearUV.
If this is true, what they're coding as red is out of the normal visible range. It may be that it doesn't make any difference but I'm thinking they mean (630-670). Maybe not, anyone care to explain?
The deal is, for green and blue it's taking nearly 1/3rd of the visible spectrum (90nm) and coding that as a single color! Usually ~1nm. This with the funky red channel doesn't make for realistic images IMHO.

Here's the deal Bob.
The whole thread (27 posts)
- Mars Express image of Valles Marineris shows green!
- "Neukum also said the colors of the images produced by the stereo camera is as realistic as possible and are not enhanced to provide additional details. "What you are seeing is real," he said."
- They've been seeing dark green on Mars since before Lowell. Don't get too worked up about it. (n/t)
