I had the hutz pah, just never had the money. I used to do things alone that amazed my female acquaintances. I didn't know I was supposed to stay home and quake in my boots because I had no male companion. I just went right on living, exploring in total oblivion to the dangers of being a single female. OTOH, I did know karate and had no hesitation to use it. Thank God I never had to. Besides, I was always instinctively careful about the places I went and when I went.
